Welcome to Fairytales Day Nursery. After working in the childcare industry for many years, my sister and i always dreamed of having our own day nursery. A nursery where we could put our own ideas in place and provide the best possible care and learning opportunities for children. After finding the right location in a purpose built building... Fairytales Day Nursery was born....
At Fairytales, we pride ourselves on a highly successful partnership working between parents, children and the nursery in order to achieve the very best care and education for each individual child. Our dedicated staff team are deeply commited to helping all children learn and achieve in the best possible way allowing them to reach their maximum potential. Staff are highly qualified and all have a significant amount of experience of working within Early Years.
We are extremely proud of our nursery with its warm, caring, homely and family orientated atmosphere. With us, children learn with confidence in a fun, safe and stimulating environment. We value each child individually and look forward to sharing with you the exciting leaps your children will take during their time with us.
We hope to see you soon, With love, Kelly and Jade xx
In 2018 Fairytales Day nursery worked so hard as a team to be awarded with GOLD status of Early Years Quality Standards.
At Fairytales we know how important it is to constantly reflect on our practice, evaluate it and always look at how we can better ourselves.
By listening to the views of our staff team, our wonderful families that attend the nursery and of course the voices of our children, 2 huge projects were started and we have never looked back!!
Fairytales is absolutely thrilled to have been awarded the Blue Balloon Kitemark in recognition of providing High Quality Childcare in March 2014.
Hertfordshire Quality Standards (HQS) is a county led scheme that ensures childcare providers are constantly improving and developing through a process of self evaluation.
'Looking for quality services should be a priority because childcare providers offering a High Quality of service and care helps your child develop and progress and gives you piece of mind' (www.hertsdirect.org).
"A truly reflective team who have used the HQS process to develop their setting into an engaging, motivating and truly magical place to be."

A core feature of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is to encourage children to learn through play. It is through play that babies and young children learn through experiences and opportunities provided by your child's Key Person to enable them to learn about the world around them, enabling them to grow, have fun and be confident little learners!
What is the EYFS?
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the Curriculum for 0-5year olds.
Children develop quickley in the early years and early years practitioners aim to do do all they can to help children have the best possible start in life.
"Children have a right spelled out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child to provision, which enables them to develop their personalities, talents and abilities irrespective of ethnicity, culture or religion, home language, family background, learning difficulties, disabilities or gender" (DFE 2012).
7 Areas of Learning within the EYFS:
How do we implement the EYFS?
We provide children of all ages and abilities with the resources and opportunities to learn through play which incorporates the 7 areas of learning in different ways. By having strong parent/carer partnership and a very effective Key Person system enables very positive links between the home and the nursery to take place. By having such knowledge shared, enables special, unique bonds between the child, family and the nursery. Also through individual and meaningful planning and observations helps to support the child both at home and in the nursery by sharing interests and extending learning both at home and at nursery!
We take great pride in feeding your child and recognise that healthy nutrition is the foundation for a healthy life.
Our menus are freshly cooked on the premisis on a daily basis. Our menus are on a four week rota which is available to see in the the nursery foyer. The input from both families and children have helped to design our menus.
Fairytales is a vegetarian nursery and all dietary health requirements are catered for. We ask parents to advise us in writing of any significant dietary conditions that may require variations from the set menu.
All weaning foods are tailored to meet individual needs.
Fairytales were awarded with a 5 stars rating by Hertsmere Borough Council Environmental Health April 2018.
We encourage good manners and eating habits for our children. We plan a nutritious and wholesome menu providing the recommended “5 a day” fruit and vegetable servings. We try to be as adventurous as we can, using unusual and interesting tastes of foods from around the world. Our food is freshly prepared and we use low sugar/fat options wherever possible.
We use seasonal vegetables and fruits and organic produce whenever possible. Our sandwiches, toast, etc. are prepared with sunflower margarine. We use wholemeal bread.
Our children learn from an early age to enjoy mealtimes together with their friends, and good table manners appear as a matter of course.
On special occasions such as children’s birthdays or “leaving” teas some parents ask to bring in a birthday cake or some party foods to be shared with their friends. We may have a number of children with special dietary needs and so we would ask parents to respect our policy concerning cakes or other items with highly coloured icing and snack foods with high salt and sugar contents, choosing in preference more natural foods without colourings and such additives. Please ask the Supervisor for details of foods that all of children may enjoy. We would like to remind families that we are a nut free nursery.
For our babies under 1 years old we follow their mealtime routine. Therefore afternoon tea can be given at 5pm as their dinner. For children over 1 years old, we encourage them to follow the nursery's mealtime routine to prepare for the following nursery class transitions.
Our baby room staff work closely with the parents/carers of babies who are weaning. Our cook will then ensure their dietary requirements are met along with the consistency needed for their meal.

Fairytales is a lovely, warm, nurturing nursery. They invest so much time and care into the children just as well as I do. They show them how to mature and get ready for Reception. The children learn so much at nursery and they genuinely do not want to come home at times!! Their care is exemplary, cannot recommend them highly enough.
